The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.
The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a military coup in last fall and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.
High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.
This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a chance to flee".
Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
In a document approving the arrest, the judge said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his flight.
This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his offspring.
His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a senator, called for a meeting of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.
His son wrote on social media on the previous day: Will you battle for your country, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to struggle with us."

They also petitioned that the former president be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he needed frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.
Background on Conviction
He was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a scheme which included plans to assassinate his opponent and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.
The plot was prevented because it didn't receive the endorsement of the army and air force commanders. The current president was took office without issue on 1 January 2023.
But a following week, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised public facilities in the capital, Brasília.
The law enforcement intervened and around 1,500 people were detained.
The judges found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to step in, reestablish control and reinstate his authority.
At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.
He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the conclusion of his imprisonment.
The one-time head of state called the trial a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 national vote.
